A Quick Idea to Add Variety, Using Ice Trays

April 21, 2011

If you feed a raw diet, you know that it is sometimes hard to incorporate as much variety as you would like. Even if you don’t feed raw, below is a cheap and easy way to make your own DIY training treats! (best if fed frozen and in a crate)

Ingredients:
-hamburger meat
-beef kidney
-beef liver
Directions:
-slice several small slivers of organ meat for each ice cube space
-pinch off a small section of hamburger meat until the ice cube space is full
-repeat until tray is full!
I add a sprinkle of probiotics to aid in digestion before freezing. This recipe is extremely easy and dogs go nuts for this treat! 🙂

Use in training: I use these as training treats to encourage a positive correlation between my dog’s crate and what happens when they enter their crate. Owners mistakenly use dog crates as a way to punish their dog, so when the time comes that their dog needs crated, dogs can learn to dread it. All kinds of negative behaviors can come from this habit. This simple command below helps make it a positive experience and your dog will readily accept the crate.
